Boston (WBZ Newsroom) -- A hazardous materials mess in Boston's Downtown Crossing Wednesday afternoon.
Around 1 pm, a steam pipe blew up at the corner of Summer and Otis streets.
A haz-mat crew was called in because the pipe was covered with asbestos.
The explosion caused a brown sludge to spew over 4 people who were nearby. They were de-contaminated at the scene and taken to the hospital to be checked out.
A building that houses a mexican restaurant, the Conservation Law Foundation and a truck parked nearby was also covered in the sludge. Roads in the area were closed to traffic as crews worked to clean-up the scene.
