Boston (WBZ Newsroom) -- Governor Deval Patrick's office is denying a report by WBZ-TV that the governor has decided to endorse casino gambling.
The governor's communications director tells WBZ Newsradio1030 that the governor has not made up his mind, and that a decision isn't expected until sometime next month.
However, WBZ-TV reporter Joe Shortsleeve stands by his story, aired Monday night at 11 p.m., saying that his sources tell him that the big decision on allowing casino gambling in Massachusetts has been made, but that the more "complicated discussions are taking place about how you go down this road.".gif)
The Legislature still needs to approve expanded gambling in Massachusetts before a full-scale casino can be built.
Meantime, the indian tribe that's looking to build a casino in Middleboro has a new leader. The Mashpee Wampanoag tribal council has voted to remove Glenn Marshall as chairman following his acknowledgment that he lied about his military service and was convicted of rape in 1981. The council voted 9-1 Monday night to make Marhshall's resignation effective immediately. Greg D'Agostino, a spokesman for the tribe, says vice chairman Shawn Hendricks now becomes chairman.
