Boston -- One of your kids' favorite foods is back following a salmonella scare.
Peter Pan Peanut Butter is returning to store shelves with a 100% satisfaction guarantee, to reassure customers problems have been fixed that allowed salmonella to contaminate the product.
Stephanie Moritz, a spokeswoman for ConAgra Foods, the makers of Peter Pan, says they recalled the peanut butter nationwide last February after federal health officials linked Peter Pan to a salmonella infection that sickened at least 625 people in 47 states. Moritz says the plant in Sylvester, Georgia where they made the product is now back on line.
That's where the problem was traced...and Moritz says the plant was remodeled to provide greater separation between raw peanuts and the finished product, and other improvements were made as well.
They've also made other improvements in the product itself...a new look!
The company has also promised a new testing plan to make sure their peanut butter is safe. ConAgra is facing several lawsuits because of the contamination, but the nation's top 30 grocery retailers have agreed to sell Peter Pan once again.
