Boston, Ma (AP) -- Democratic Senate candidate Martha Coakley opposes sending more U.S. troops to Afghanistan.
Coakley issued a statement Sunday saying, "I believe we should begin the process of bringing our troops home."
Two days before President Barack Obama addresses the nation on the subject, Coakley says she is "very concerned" the case for more troops still has not been made. And she believes there is no evidence Afghan President Hamid Karzai "is a legitimate or trustworthy partner."
The position aligns the attorney general with Rep. Michael Capuano and City Year co-founder Alan Khazei. It also is expected to appeal to the liberal Democrats Coakley, Capuano, Khazei and Boston Celtics co-owner Stephen Pagliuca are targeting in advance of the Dec. 8 Democratic primary.
They are vying to succeed the late Sen. Edward Kennedy.
