BOSTON (AP) - Massachusetts first lady Diane Patrick has decided to endorse Rep. Michael Capuano in the Senate special election.
Former first lady Kitty Dukakis also recently endorsed the six-term congressman in the race to succeed the late Sen. Edward Kennedy.
The endorsements come as Capuano competes with Attorney General Martha Coakley, the front-runner and only woman in the campaign. City Year co-founder Alan Khazei and Boston Celtics co-owner Stephen Pagliuca are also competing for the Democratic nomination.
Patrick plans to formalize her endorsement Saturday during Capuano's 50th "Open Mike" town hall meeting at the Dedham Community Theater.
Gov. Deval Patrick says he is following Kennedy's advice and not endorsing any of the Democrats in the primary.
