BOSTON (AP) - Government watchdogs are questioning the importance of some projects in Massachusetts funded by federal stimulus money.
The state has received nearly $4 billion of the $787 billion package approved by Congress in February to jumpstart the economy and create jobs.
But of that $4 billion, $1.5 million is being used to fix a lighthouse on an uninhabited Cape Cod island; $123,000 is being spent to make a party cruise ship terrorists proof; and $95,000 is going to the University of Massachusetts-Boston to study ancient pollen in Iceland.
Schools have spent stimulus money on window blinds, dishwashers and photocopiers.
Harvard University business professor Roger Porter tells The Boston Globe that some of the spending is "neither wise nor desirable."
