Boston, Ma (AP) -- Democrat Alan Khazei has had a change of heart over meeting with lobbyists.
After saying early Tuesday he'll never meet with a lobbyist if he is elected U.S. senator, he issued a statement saying he would meet with one but not take a campaign contribution from him or her.
The City Year co-founder attacked Attorney General Martha Coakley during an environmental forum Tuesday. He says she can't rebuke oil and gas interests if she takes political action committee donations for her campaign.
Coakley says her donors are disclosed, and she makes decisions on the merits.
But U.S. Rep. Michael Capuano snickered when Khazei told him he wouldn't even meet with a lobbyist from the Sierra Club.
Stephen Pagliuca also is also seeking the Democratic nomination to replace the late Edward Kennedy. Two Republicans are running.
