WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama is urging Congress to hold off on any investigation into the Fort Hood rampage.
During his weekly radio and Internet address, Obama pleads with lawmakers to allow federal law enforcement and military authorities to complete their probes first. He says lawmakers need to "resist the temptation" to turn the tragedy into political theater.
Listen to President Obama's radio address:
Republican Rep. Howard McKeon and independent Sen. Joe Lieberman have said they want to open investigations into the shooting that left 13 dead.
Army psychiatrist Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan has been charged in the rampage.
Obama says he's not opposed to holding the hearings, but is strongly pressing for lawmakers to back off for now.
The president has already ordered a review of all intelligence related to Hasan and whether the information was properly shared and acted up within government agencies.
