Boston traffic advisory for Columbus Day weekend





Boston (City of Boston)  -- Red Sox

Due to the Boston Red Sox playing at Fenway Park this weekend, temporary traffic and parking restrictions will be implemented in the surrounding vicinity. Yawkey Way will be closed to vehicular traffic for two hours before and two hours after Sunday's game scheduled for 12:07 PM, as well as for Monday's game if necessary. In addition, Van Ness Street will be closed to traffic for all but production vehicles both Sunday and Monday, 24 hours. "Tow Zone, No Stopping, Boston Police Special Event, Sunday and Monday" signs will be posted on both sides of Van Ness Street between Yawkey Way and Kilmarnock Street.

Rutherford Avenue, Charlestown

Rutherford Avenue in Charlestown will be closed to traffic between Sullivan Square and Austin Street on Saturday, October 10, from 6 AM and 9 PM, and on Sunday, October 11, from 6 AM to 11 AM. The suggested detour route inbound is from Sullivan Square to Medford Street, right to Chelsea Street, to City Square, left to North Washington Street Bridge. Outbound, the suggested detour route is North Washington Street Bridge, right to Chelsea Street, left to Medford Street, to Sullivan Square. Rutherford Avenue to the Route 1 on-ramp/Tobin Bridge shall be maintained throughout the weekend.

Boylston Street

On Saturday, October 10, from 7 AM to 8 PM, Boylston Street will be closed to traffic from Ipswich Street to Yawkey Way. Outbound traffic may travel down Park Drive to the Sears Rotary. Inbound will be diverted from Boylston Street, to Yawkey Way to Ipswich Street and back to Boylston Street, or Yawkey Way to Brookline Avenue.

Boston Athletic Association Half Marathon

On Sunday, October 11, at 7 AM, an estimated 5,000 participants will gather on Park Drive at Roberto Clemente Field for the 9th Annual Boston Athletic Association Half Marathon. Traffic will be delayed on the following streets to allow the runners to proceed along the route.

Park Drive at Roberto Clemente Field, left to the Riverway, right to the Rt. 9 off-ramp, left to Pond Avenue, left to Chestnut Street, right to Perkins Street, left to Parkman Drive, right to the Jamaicaway, straight to the Arborway, around the Forest Hills Rotary, to Circuit Drive, to the Franklin Park Zoo, return to Circuit Drive, around the Forest Hill Rotary, to the Arborway, to the Jamaicaway, to the Riverway, to Fenway, left onto Park Drive, slight left over the cutover point onto the grass, straight to the finish line on the track at Roberto Clemente Field.

"Tow Zone, No Stopping, Sunday" signs will be posted at the following locations.

 Circuit Drive, both sides, from the Shattuck Hospital Driveway to the Valley Gates (Zoo Parking Lot)
 Valley Gates Area, both sides, from Circuit Drive to the White Stadium Entrance to the Zoo

Irish Heritage Festival

Streets will be closed to vehicular traffic and parking will be restricted in the vicinity of Adams Village on Sunday, October 11, 2009 due to an Irish Heritage Day celebration.

From 6:30 AM to 8 PM, Minot Street will be closed to traffic from Saranac Street to Kenmare Road, and Adams Street will be closed to traffic from Saranac Street to Gallivan Boulevard. Access to Adams Street will be restricted to residents only at Ashmont Street.

"Tow Zone, No Stopping, Sunday" regulations will be in place at the following locations.

 Adams Street, both sides, between Saranac Street and Gallivan Boulevard
 Minot Street, both sides, between Saranac Street and Kenmare Road.

Columbus Day Parade

Boston's annual Columbus Day Parade will take place this year on Sunday, October 11 at 1 PM in the vicinity of City Hall Plaza. Traffic will be delayed as the parade progresses along the following route.

Court Street, straight to State Street, left to Atlantic Avenue, straight to Commercial Street, left to Battery Street, left to Hanover Street, right to Cross Street, right to Endicott Street.

"Tow Zone, No Stopping, Sunday" will be allowed at the following locations.

 Cambridge Street, both sides, from Bowdoin Street/New Chardon Street to Tremont Street
 Court Street, both sides, from Washington Street to Tremont Street
 State Street, both sides, from Court Street to Atlantic Avenue
 Atlantic Avenue, both sides, from State Street to Commercial Street
 Commercial Street, both sides, from Atlantic Avenue to Battery Street
 Battery Street, both sides, from Commercial Street to Hanover Street
 Hanover Street, both sides, from Battery Street to Cross Street
 Cross Street, both sides, from Hanover Street to Endicott Street
 Endicott Street, both sides, from Cross Street to North Washington Street
 North Washington Street, east side, fro Endicott Street to Causeway Street, and west side, from Causeway Street to Medford Street
 Causeway Street, both sides, from North Washington Street to Prince Street
 Commercial Street, both sides, from Prince Street to Hull Street
 North Washington Street, west side, from Causeway Street to Medford Street
 Commercial Street, both sides, from Hull Street to Hanover Street

Columbus Day Race for Women

On Monday, October 12, at Noon, an estimated 7,000 runners will gather on Beacon Street east of Charles Street, for the 33rd running of the Columbus Day Race for Women. Traffic will be delayed as the runners proceed along the following route.

Beacon Street, right to Charles Street, over the Longfellow Bridge into Cambridge, to Memorial Drive westbound, turn around at BU Rotary, eastbound to MIT Sailing Pavilion where runners will reverse direction on Memorial Drive, heading westbound, left to the Massachusetts Avenue Bridge, to Massachusetts Avenue, left to Commonwealth Avenue, right to Arlington Street, left to Boylston Street, left to Charles Street, finishing between the center gate of the Public Garden and Beacon Street.

"Tow Zone, No Stopping, Boston Police Special Event, Monday" signs will be posted at the following locations.

 Beacon Street, both sides, from River Street to Joy Street
 Boylston Street, both sides, from Tremont Street to Charles Street
 Charles Street, both sides, from Boylston Street to Beacon Street
