Los Angeles (AP/WBZ Newsroom) -- Ed McMahon passed away early Tuesday morning.
McMahon was best known as Johnny Carson's loyal, laughing sidekick.

In addition to working with Carson, McMahon was the host of the talent show Star Search from 1983 to 1995. He later also became well-known as the presenter of American Family Publishers sweepstakes.
McMahon annually cohosted the Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon. He performed in numerous television commercials, most notably for Budweiser.
McMahon was born in Los Angeles and raised in Lowell. He attended The Catholic University of America, majoring in speech and drama.
McMahon began his career as a bingo caller in Maine when he was 15.
His first broadcasting job was at WLLH-AM in Lowell and he began his television career in Philadelphia.
McMahon was 86 years old.
