Boston (AP) -- A one-time aide to former Massachusetts House Speaker Salvatore DiMasi has won the Democratic primary for the seat.
According to unofficial results from the Boston Election Commission, Aaron Michlewitz (MIKE'-uhl-wits) got 2,116 of the votes in Tuesday night's election to defeat financial analyst Susan Passoni, with 1,945 votes. Four people ran in the primary, which had 15 percent turnout.
Michlewitz will face Republican David Trumbull, who ran unopposed in the primary, and independent candidate John Keith, in a June 16 special election.
DiMasi resigned in January amid an ethics investigation after 30 years in office. He has denied any wrongdoing.
The district includes Boston's North End, South End, Chinatown, Beacon Hill, Back Bay, and parts of Roxbury.
