Boston (WBZ Newsroom) -- Commuters will be able to use their credit card to pay for more parking spots in Boston's Back Bay.
The city's bought more than 60 high-tech meters to help regulate short-term parking. These meters have been on Newbury Street for about two years now.
The new multi-space meters are meant to help regulate short-term parking. These 63 meters are identical to the existing 23 multi-space meters that were installed on Newbury Street, from Arlington Street to Exeter Street, in the fall of 2006.
The meters are of the "pay and display" type, meaning that drivers must affix a receipt dispensed by the meter to the inside of the vehicle's curbside window to prove that payment has been made.
In addition to quarters, they accept for payment one-dollar bills, one-dollar coins and credit/debit cards.
Another 27 meters will be installed and activated over the next couple of weeks.
These meters will be located on Boylston Street from Dartmouth Street to Arlington Street, on the Public Garden side only of Boylston Street from Arlington Street to Charles Street, on Exeter Street from Newbury Street to Boylston Street, on the Boston Public Library side only of Exeter Street from Boylston Street to Blagden Street, on Clarendon Street from Newbury Street to St. James Avenue, and on Berkeley Street from Newbury Street to St. James Avenue.
A major Nor'easter is headed toward Massachusetts. Snow is expected to arrive around midday Wednesday and last through much of the night. About eight inches is expected in Boston, with lower amounts to the North and higher amounts to the South.
