The Celtics introduced their 2008 draft class in Waltham on Tuesday and the three players - J.R. Giddens, Bill Walker, and Semih Erden - all said the right things.
Well, Erden could have said terrible nasty things but his translator informed the gathered media that the native of Turkey is thrilled to be given the chance to become a member of the Celtics, once his commitment (another year) at home is fulfilled.
J.R. Giddens, as many are aware, comes with some baggage, but certainly nothing Willie Andrews-like. To the best of our knowledge he has never held a gun to a girlfriend's head. Oops, wait. Make that allegedly held a gun to a girlfriend's head. Nor has Giddens been seen driving the streets of Lawrence with enough pot in his car to satisfy everyone attending a Woodstock reunion. If they could remember that they were attending a Woodstock reunion.
Giddens, according to Executive Director of Basketball Operations and GM Danny Ainge, is not as mature as they would like but he isn't alone in that regard. As Ainge stated during the introduction of the rookies in Waltham, there are 34-year olds in the NBA not as mature as one would like.
Good point.
Well, here's hoping that Giddens is a quick learner because with the veterans on the Green, he would have to really go out of his way to mess up. From Doc Rivers to Paul Pierce (hey, they can compare knife wounds) to KG to James Posey to Eddie House, Giddens will have ample opportunity to grow - both on and off the court.

It's that time of year when Little League Baseball is at the fore of the sports pages. However, as Walt Perkins tells us, you don't have to make it to Williamsport, PA to be a champion on the diamond.

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - Now that the New Jersey Devils are making a push back to the top of the Atlantic Division they can stop peeking at the standings.
