Several city councilors and staff at Boston City Hall have taken on an ambitious project. They are trying to learn Spanish.
The Spanish classes that started Thursday are the brainchild of Boston City Council President Michael Flaherty who recognizes people might say it should be up to the Spanish speaking constituents to learn english.
Flaherty said the classes are an effort by the council to understand the Spanish language and culture in Boston.
In East Boston almost 40 percent of residents said Spanish is their native language.
The first day of Spanish class included 8 staffers and councilors Flaherty and Michael Ross.
