McDonough Hit Bullseye on Clemens Years Ago

The late, great, Will McDonough hit the nail on the head many years ago.

The former Boston Globe sports icon called Roger Clemens the "Texas Con Man".

Now, through the pitcher's own arrogance and stupidity (to borrow a phrase from former Dallas Cowboy linebacker Thomas "Hollywood" Henderson: he couldn't spell CAT if you spotted him the C and the A) the entire universe knows what Bostonians learned years ago.

Roger Clemens is a fraud.

When 'The Rocket' said he was leaving Boston to be closer to his Houston roots and ended up in Toronto, we knew.

Rand McClemens he isn't.

Nor is he Albert Einstein.

He isn't even Alfred E. Newman.

He's a liar and a cheat. That is what is unfolding in his professional life right before our eyes.

Now, through the tearful admission of some bleached blond has-been who sees $$ every time she looks at a photo of her past paramour, we are discovering he has been a liar and a cheat in his personal life as well.

Country singer Mindy McCready has tearfully confirmed to the New York Daily News that she first met Clemens in a Fort Myers, FL bar called The Hired Hand when she was 15 and Clemens was 28, married and father of two. She also admits that she went up to Clemens' room that same night but no sex was involved. Sex didn't enter the picture until McCready advanced her karaoke club career in Fort Myers with a move to Nashville to sing both kinds of music: country and western.

McCready moved to Nashville when she was 18.  That means Clemens was 31. Are we expected to believe or think that Clemens did not engage in sex with McCready for the three spring trainings in Fort Myers?

You know, when McCready was a minor?

Well, consider this. Mindy McCready's mother, Gayle Inge, confirmed her daughter's relationship with Clemens. Inge says that one year during spring training, on a day when Inge was not at home, the teenage McCready threw a birthday party at the house attended by Clemens and several members of the Red Sox.

Oh yeah, I'm sure they were there for the punch, ice cream and cake.

There's something to add to the resume: statutory rape.

The Daily News goes on to say that Clemens denies having had any sex with the woman (the Bill Clinton Defense) and adds that McCready has never met Debbie Clemens, Roger's wife. The article adds that Clemens regularly funneled large sums of money to McCready, even writing checks totaling $25,000 through an intermediary.

Oh yeah, now there's behavior indicative of a healthy, up front, above board relationship.

Not!

So there you go; Roger Clemens, Hall of Fame, Hall of Shame. Hall of Lame.

But Clemens shouldn't worry about public opinion. I have the feeling he's going to be more concerned with his future roommate.

The one he'll get when the feds are done with their perjury investigation to determine if he lied under oath to Congress.

I'm guessing the feds will ship him off to a new home where his new friends will want to talk about baseball and about the high, hard one.

Not necessarily in that order.

Good luck Rog!
