Canton (WBZ Newsroom) -- MBTA police are looking at human error as the cause of the runaway boxcar crash in Canton that injured 150 people.
Investigators say they are taking a "close look at the actions of personnel" at the Cohenno Lumberyard in Stoughton.
CSX Rail had recently delivered six freight cars to the yard, one of which was full of lumber and separated from the rest.
The MBTA says it rolled down the track and thru equipment designed to prevent a car from rolling onto an active railroad.
It then traveled for 3 miles before hitting the southbound commuter train which had come to a stop as a result of signal alerts.
Most of the 150 people injured on the train had been standing and moving toward doors as the train approached the Canton Junction station. The engineer is still in the hospital with a separated shoulder and facial injuries.
Commuter service resumed Tuesday evening between Boston, Attleboro and Providence, R.I., on the line, Pesaturo said, but passengers were being bused between Canton and Stoughton as crews worked to separate the freight car from the locomotive.
