The Patriots now find themselves at destiny’s door, one win away from an unprecedented 19-0 season. They can complete the deal February 3rd in Glendale, AZ when they meet the New York Giants in Super Bowl 42 (XLII for you Roman numeral fans).
The Patriots, who had actually been accused of running up the score in several regular season games via their unprecedented aerial attack, relied on a solid ground game and a defense that bent but did not break to propel them past the pesky Chargers and into the NFL Championship in Glendale, Arizona.
It is, after all, defense that wins championships and that message was not lost on the Patriots. Four times the Chargers were inside the Pats 20 – the red zone – and each time, the Patriots held the fort, forcing the Bolts to settle for 3 points instead of 7.
Now comes the New York football Giants. Again. The Patriots and Giants wrapped up the pre-season together. They wrapped up the regular season together. Now, the get to conclude the post season together as well.
Now that’s what I call coming full circle.
