Beverly (WBZ Newsroom) -- The MBTA says commuter train service is back to normal on the Newburyport/Rockport line after the morning commute was interrupted by a mechanical failure on a rail bridge in Beverly.
The same drawbridge over the Danvers River was shutdown after being struck by a barge on December 21.
MBTA spokesman Joe Pesaturo says the bridge reopened late Wednesday morning after crews replaced a drive shaft. He says the same part was replaced in July and was expected to last more than 10 years.
Pesaturo says investigators will try to determine if the failure was related to the barge accident.
