Boston (WBZ Newsroom) -- The Boston Redevelopment Authority has pledged one hundred thousand dollars to help promote Downtown Crossing this holiday shopping season, which begins tomorrow.
A petting zoo, Santa Claus, special events, discount coupons, restaurant deals, and advertising campaigns are all part of the marketing plan.
The infusion of cash is welcome news to retailers in the once-thriving area that's now struggling in the absence of Filene's and Filene's Basement.
The Boston Globe and Herald report Downtown Crossing retailers are bracing for a dismal holiday season. Filene's Basement isn't scheduled to reopen until the year after next.
