Mark Recchi has agreed to stay with the Boston Bruins.
The NHL's sixth leading active goal scorer has agreed to a one-year deal, a person familiar with the negotiations said Thursday on condition of anonymity because final details were still being worked out. The club had no comment.
The Boston Bruins picked right wing Jordan Caron with the 25th overall selection in the NHL draft Friday night.
Caron, 18, had 36 goals with 31 assists last year in junior hockey in Quebec for Rimouski. He is 6-foot-2 and 199 pounds.
Caron led his team in scoring last season over 56 regular-season games, and ranked 11th in the league in scoring.
The Boston Bruins are trying to move up from the 25th pick in the NHL draft to take a particular player they like.
That player is not among a group of about four in the draft who are ready to play next season, Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli said Tuesday.
The 2008-2009 Boston Bruins may have disappointed themselves and their fans with a Conference semi-final exit from the Stanley Cup Playoffs, but their regular season accomplishments did not go unnoticed as three members of the organization copped awards at the NHL Awards dinner in Las Vegas Thursday night.
The Boston Bruins have signed general manager Peter Chiarelli to a contract extension, rewarding the architect who built the team with the second-best record in the NHL last season.

Patriots Draft Pick Tears ACL New England Patriots third-round draft pick Tyrone McKenzie will miss the 2009 season with a torn ligament in his right knee.
The outside linebacker from South Florida tore his anterior cruciate ligament during rookie minicamp and will be sidelined for the year, a person familiar with the injury said Wednesday night on condition of anonymity.

Boston Celtics News
Boston Celtics' Paul Pierce (34), Kevin Garnett, center, Ray Allen, right, and Eddie House, front, look on from the bench late in the third quarter of a preseason basketball game against the New York Knicks, Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2007, in Boston. The Celti
The Big Three of the Boston Celtics very well could stick around beyond their current contracts with a changing cast of supporting players.
Ray Allen will be 34 after the one year left on his contract, Paul Pierce will be 33 after his two remaining years and Kevin Garnett will be 36 after the three years left on his deal.
Lester Hudson of Tennessee-Martin is the Boston Celtics only pick of Thursday night's NBA draft.
The 2008 NBA champions chose the 6-foot-3 guard with the 58th of the draft's 60 picks. The Celtics had traded their first-round pick to the Minnesota Timberwolves in a 7-for-1 trade for Kevin Garnett after the 2006-07 season.
The Boston Garden will be quiet for the NBA draft.
No party for the season ticketholders and sponsors. No network live shot from the war room. No congratulatory phone call to the next Boston Celtics star on Thursday night, when the top college and international players are distributed around the league.
Celtics Thoughts Turn to Next Year The first-round victory over Chicago bought the Boston Celtics two more weeks, and as they went into Game 7 against Orlando they allowed themselves to wonder whether they could extend their season long enough to get Kevin Garnett out of street clothes and on the court.
Doc Rivers Not Happy with Garnett Suspension Boston Celtics head coach Doc Rivers tells WBZ's Tom Cuddy he isn't pleased with the league's one-game suspension of Kevin Garnett for having a dust-up with Andrew Bogut of the Milwaukee Bucks.

Tim Wakefield's next trip to the mound may be in the All-Star game. Look out, any AL catcher trying to handle his knuckleball.
Wakefield enhanced his status as a first-time All-Star by earning his AL-leading 11th victory, and David Ortiz homered and drove in four runs to lead the Boston Red Sox over the Oakland Athletics 5-4 Wednesday night.
It was a game of firsts for big names John Smoltz and Nomar Garciaparra -- and Oakland rookie Brett Anderson.
On a night when the 21-year veteran Smoltz made his Red Sox debut at Fenway Park and Garciaparra played there for the first time as an opponent, the 21-year-old Athletics left-hander threw a two-hit shutout in a 6-0 win Monday.
David Ortiz seems fully recovered from his poor start to the season.
Ortiz, swinging on a 3-0 pitch, had a tying RBI single to trigger a five-run seventh inning, and the Red Sox avoided a three-game sweep by beating the Seattle Mariners 8-4 on Sunday.

One of the stated goals of the 2009 Red Sox is to win every series they play.
That was a bit of an inconsistency earlier in the season but the Sox, of late, have been methodical in taking two out of three against any foe in their path. That is, when they aren't busy finishing off a team in three straight.
