Worcester (WBZ Newsroom) -- A 16-year-old Worcester girl is being held without bail in a juvenile facility accused of suffocating her infant son with a teddy bear because she was frustrated he was ill.
Police say emergency crews were called to 3 Henderson Ave. in Worcester Sunday morning. When they arrived, the mother, Nga Thi Truong, handed her baby, Kyle, over to the paramedics. The baby was not breathing.
The 1-year-old was rushed to St. Vincent's Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Initially, Truong told police she found her baby unresponsive in his crib, but she later confessed that she suffocated him.
Truong was placed under arrest and charged with first degree murder.
Her boyfriend, 17-year-old Edwin Vasquez, told reporters at the courthouse Tuesday that the baby wasn't suffocated but died in his sleep.
Listen to what he told reporters:
Vasquez, who is not the baby's father, said the girl was screaming the baby's name when she found him unconscious.
Truong's next court appearance is scheduled for January 7.
