Sex offender sentenced for fondling child on church bus

Nashua, NH (AP)  -- A former volunteer bus monitor in Nashua, New Hampshire, has been sent to prison for least 13 years after admitting he fondled a little girl on a church bus.

Fifty-nine-year-old Eugene Hammond admitted fondling the eight-year-old girl while working as a monitor on a Faith Baptist Church bus nine years ago. Hammond pleaded guilty on Thursday to two counts of sexual assault and one count of possession of child pornography.

Prosecutors say Hammond previously was convicted of at least three sexual assaults against children in Florida and Pennsylvania.

Police began to investigate Hammond last fall, after a 16-year-old girl told a counselor she'd been molested repeatedly on the church bus when she was 8 years old.
