Lowell (AP) -- Lowell police have cited a 17-year-old girl with fleeing the scene of an accident that left a 12-year-old boy seriously injured when he was struck by a car.
Police said Friday that Michelle P. Medeiros of Methuen is accused of leaving the scene of a personal injury accident. It could not immediately be determined if she has an attorney.
Investigators say Kelvin Savanhmixay was thrown about 20 feet when he was hit in a crosswalk Wednesday afternoon. Witnesses say two cars that appeared to be drag racing ran a red light before one struck the boy. Police seized one car they believe was involved, and are searching for the other one.
The boy is in fair condition at Children's Hospital in Boston with internal and head injuries.
